Faculty Library Guide

Our Catalog, JULIEN

Julien search box JULIEN, the library's online catalog, is located on the library's homepage. Search the catalog for VLGS-owned materials that are relevant to your research. We have a huge ebook collection and a great print one you can access.

We also have a guide to using JULIEN if you'd like more information.

Ebooks

Anvanced keyword search screen with EBOOK selectedWe have hundreds of thousands of ebooks you and your students can access from anywhere!

To find and use them:

  1. Ebooks automatically show up in JULIEN search results along with our print titles. If you ONLY want ebooks in the results, use the Advanced Keyword Search to access the Material Type field, then choose EBOOK.
  2. You'll need your VLGS login credentials to access the majority of our ebooks. Others require your Westlaw or Lexis+ login. You'll be prompted for the appropriate login when you click on the link to the ebook in JULIEN.
  3. See the ebook guide for more information about different ebook platforms or downloading ebooks.

When assigning ebooks to students, one important thing to keep in mind is that some of our ebooks can only be accessed by one user at a time. When viewing the webpage for the book on Ebook Central, look under the heading Availability. If it says the library has access to one copy, only one user can access the book at a time. That means only one person at a time can view it online or download a chapter. If it says unlimited access, there are no restrictions on how many people can access the book at once.

You do not need a My JULIEN account to access ebooks.

Print Books

For residential faculty, print books can be checked out at the Information Desk during business hours (daily from 8:00–8:00).

For online faculty, you can follow one of these procedures to obtain print books from the library:

  • If you need just a chapter or section from a book, we will retrieve, scan, and email it to you if it's under thirty pages. Send your request for a scan to library@vermontlaw.edu.
  • If you need a larger number of pages or the whole book, you can request the book from our library using the ILL form on our website. Click on the Document Delivery and ILL tab in this guide for more information.

Course Reserve

If you have books you'd like to ensure your students can access while they're taking your course, you can place those books on course reserve. These can be books you own or that belong to the library. Once they're placed on course reserve, students can only access them at the Information Desk for a two-hour checkout period.

Please note that the library does not buy textbooks for specific courses. If you'd like to provide a copy of a textbook for your students to access, we're happy to put it on course reserve. If the library already happens to have a copy of the book, we're happy to put that on course reserve as well.

For assistance with putting a book on course reserve, please contact Melissa Kalinen, Access Services and ILL Specialist.

My JULIEN Account

While you don't need a My JULIEN Account to access ebooks, your account is useful if you want to renew a checkout, place a hold on a book, or create lists of titles you're interested in. You can access your account on the My JULIEN webpage. Just click on the "Don't have a PIN? Forgot Yours?" link to create a PIN.
