Ebooks at the Julien & Virginia Cornell Library : Get Help

This guide will help you find, access and download ebooks available in the library.

Off-campus Access Troubleshooting Tips

Most library ebooks are restricted to use on campus, or use off-campus only by current VLGS faculty, staff, and students. To access ebooks off campus, you will be prompted to enter your VLGS username and password.

If you experience any problems accessing ebooks off campus, try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Enable cookies and JavaScript in your browser.
  • Turn off any accelerator software (NetZero High Speed, etc.)
  • If you are using computers from your internship or workplace -- Corporate firewalls could possibly block users from accessing electronic resources. Suggest to your IT/ network administrator to create an exception for https://login.vermontlaw.idm.oclc.org/login?url=
  • If the above solution does not work, try adding the full URL to the firewall exception. (Right click on the database name on library database page).
  • Still having trouble? Email us. (A screenshot of the error page will be very helpful!)

Common questions

Why can't I download the whole ebook?

Downloading the whole ebook makes the title unavailable for other users for 7 days, and expires and disappears from your device at the end of that time period. When you use the online reader, the ebook becomes available for the next user the moment you close your browser session. We suggest downloading chapters of the ebooks. This frees up the ebook for others' use and you can keep the PDF chapter downloads in perpetuity.

Why am I getting turned away from an ebook title?

Most ebooks can be viewed by any number of people at a time. However, the library has purchased some titles that are available for viewing by only one user (or a certain number of users) at a time. If you try to view one of these documents and it is in use, a pop-up message prompts you to put yourself on a waiting list for the document.
