Online Students Library Guide

Information about VLGS's Cornell Library and the services and resources we offer to our online students

Our Databases

We subscribe to over sixty legal, news, and policy databases and add new ones from time to time. To find a database, access our Subscription Databases guide, which contains A-Z and topical lists. (You can also access the lists from the Databases link on the library's homepage.)

If you need assistance with one of our databases, please contact a reference librarian.

Off-Campus Access

Most of our e-journals and databases are available for off-campus use by current VLGS students. To access a database, select one from the Subscription Databases guide and enter your VLGS email address and password when prompted. You must use the link directly from our database list (or bookmark our link in your browser) to be able to access our databases from off campus. Using a search engine or other school's list to find a database does not allow the vendor to recognize you as a VLGS user.

If you experience any problems accessing databases off campus, try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Try a different browser.
  • Enable cookies, pop-up windows, and JavaScript in your browser for the database in question.
  • Still having trouble? Email us. (A screenshot of the error page will be very helpful!)
  • A few of our databases require a separate login that is different from your VLGS login: Westlaw, Lexis+, Washington Post, and The New York Times. (Sign up for your own Washington Post and New York Times accounts using the instructions in the News research guide.)
